Dynamic polygeneration system with SOFC
Polygeneration system could be a potentially attractive technology to maximize the conversion of the versatile feedstocks into multiple products. By adopting this technology, more products including power; both electricity and heat; synthetic liquid fuels and chemicals can be generated through the integration of energy conversion systems and chemical processes. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have shown great potential to be incorporated in polygeneration system for electricity production. With current development, it can effectively increase the energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
However due to the increasing worldwide energy demand and environmental constraints, the idea to have dynamic operation of polygeneration plant becomes one of the main concerns in energy debate. By having a dual mode of base-load and peaking power SOFC system, it is believed that the economic returns of this technology can be improved through the wise utilization of fuel resources by taking into consideration of the fluctuation of market prices, the energy demand as well as the carbon taxes. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to design the dynamic polygeneration with SOFC and investigate the feasibility of this system in order to meet the sustainable development requirements.
